Praseodymium is a metallic element, a rare earth metal. Melting point: 1204 ℃, atomic number: 59, relative atomic mass: 140.90765, density: 6.773g/cm3, silver-white metal, soft and ductile. Praseodymium has a hexagonal crystal structure at room temperature. Praseodymium is more resistant to corrosion in air than lanthanum, cerium, neodymium and europium, but exposure to air produces a brittle green oxide layer. Pure praseodymium must be stored in mineral oil or sealed plastic.
One of the uses of praseodymium is in the catalytic cracking of petroleum.
It can be used as a catalyst in petrochemical industry. The petroleum cracking catalyst is prepared by adding the Y-type zeolite molecular sieve in the form of praseodymium neodymium enrichment, which can improve the activity, selectivity and stability of the catalyst.
