Overview
Tellurium (Te) General Information:
Tellurium, element symbol is Te. Atomic number 52, molecular weight 127.6. Melting point 452 ℃, boiling point 1390 ℃, insoluble in water, density 6.25g/cm3, appearance: silver-white solid. Tellurium is an orthorhombic silver-white crystal. High-purity tellurium is obtained from tellurium powder as raw material and extracted and refined with sodium polysulfide. The purity is 99.999%. It is used as additive for semiconductor devices, alloys, chemical raw materials, cast iron, rubber, glass and other industries.
Among the two allotropes of tellurium, one is crystalline tellurium, which has metallic luster, silvery white, and brittle properties, and is similar to antimony; the other is an amorphous powder that is dark gray. Medium density, low melting and boiling points. It is a non-metallic element, but it has very good heat transfer and electrical conductivity capabilities. Among all non-metallic companions, it is the most metallic.

Tellurium can be used as an additive in petroleum cracking catalysts and as a catalyst for the production of ethylene glycol. Tellurium oxide is used as a colorant in glass. High-purity tellurium can be used as an alloy component of thermoelectric materials. Bismuth telluride is a good refrigeration material. Tellurium and several tellurides are semiconductor materials. Ultrapure tellurium single crystal is a new infrared material. Tellurium is mainly used as a catalyst for petroleum cracking, a brightener for electroplating solutions, and a coloring material for glass.
