Overview
Physical and chemical properties:
Cadmium telluride, an inorganic compound with the chemical formula CdTe, is an important Ⅱ-Ⅵ compound semiconductor material. The molecular weight is 240.011, the melting point is 1041°C, and the temperature is higher, it will decompose, and the relative density is 6.2015. Insoluble in water and acid, but can be decomposed with nitric acid. Easily oxidized by air when wet.
Appearance: Gray to dark gray or black powder or crystalline powder.
CAS accession number: 1306-25-8.
Application
Compared with monocrystalline silicon solar cells, cadmium telluride solar cells have the advantages of convenient fabrication, low cost and lighter weight. Cadmium telluride thin film solar cells are referred to as CdTe cells, which are thin film solar cells based on the heterojunction of p-type CdTe and n-type CdS.
In addition, cadmium telluride semiconductors can be used in spectral analysis, infrared electro-optic modulators, infrared detectors, infrared lenses and windows, phosphors, room temperature gamma-ray detectors, light-emitting devices near the visible region, and the like.
