Rhodium (Rh) General Information:

Rhodium is a silvery white and hard metal with the element symbol RH. Density 12.41. Melting point 1966℃. The boiling point is about 3700℃.Rhodium is a platinum element with high reflectivity. Rhodium metal usually does not form oxides. Molten rhodium will absorb oxygen, but release it during solidification. Rhodium has a higher melting point and a lower density than platinum. Rhodium is insoluble in most acids. It is completely insoluble in nitric acid and slightly soluble in aqua regia

In addition to making alloys, rhodium is used as a bright and hard coating on other metals, for example, on silverware or camera parts. Evaporating rhodium onto the glass surface, forming a thin layer of wax, creates a particularly fine mirror surface.

(2) The reflectivity of visible light is high and stable. It is commonly used in the coating of reflective surfaces such as special industrial mirrors, searchlights, and radars.

(3) High melting point, oxidation resistance and corrosion resistance, it is one of the most chemically stable metals. It can be used as a corrosion-resistant container, and can be used at a high temperature of 1850 ° C in the atmosphere. The pure rhodium crucible can be used to produce calcium tungstate and lithium niobate single crystals.

(4) Rhodium plating has high hardness (7500-9000MPa), wear resistance, corrosion resistance and stable contact resistance. Rhodium-plated composite material is an excellent electrical contact material, and rhodium can also be used for the coating of ornaments and other industrial instruments and gas sensors.

(5) Modification. Rhodium can form solid solution with platinum, palladium and other metals, which can strengthen the matrix by solid solution, improve the melting point, recrystallization temperature and corrosion resistance of the matrix, and reduce the loss of oxidation volatilization. Among them, platinum-rhodium alloy is an excellent precious metal temperature measurement material; rhodium The compounds formed with titanium, zirconium, hafnium, tantalum, niobium and other metals have a dispersion strengthening effect on rhodium-containing alloys and increase thermal stability; adding rhodium to iridium can improve the processing performance of iridium.

(6) The work hardening rate is high, and it can be cold worked after hot working to a certain size.
