Overview
Physical and chemical properties
Properties: purple powder, melting point: 2130ºC. Relative molecular mass: 143.7320. CAS registration number: 1344-54-3. Density: 4.49g/cm3 Hexagonal structure, lattice constant α=0.5155nm. Oxygen 59.5%~60.8% (at).
Soluble in 40% (mass) hydrofluoric acid, can be attacked by concentrated nitric acid, but not attacked by concentrated hydrochloric acid, concentrated sulfuric acid, and not attacked by concentrated alkali, and acts with 30% (mass) hydrogen peroxide solution to generate microscopic yellow solution.
Heating in the air at 250~300 ℃ converts into titanium pentoxide. It is prepared by heating titanium powder and titanium dioxide mixture at 1600℃ in vacuum or reducing titanium dioxide with hydrogen at 1500℃. Titanite itself is a good reducing agent.
Application
Titanium oxide alloys such as titanium rods, titanium plates, titanium wires, titanium tubes, and titanium coils are also a good reducing agent.
