Overview

Physical and chemical properties

Good ductility and moderate hardness.

Nickel is a silver-white metal with magnetic properties and good plasticity. Good corrosion resistance, nickel is a silver-white, hard, ductile and ferromagnetic metal element that is highly polished and resistant to corrosion. After dissolving in nitric acid, it turns green. Mainly used in alloys (such as nickel steel and nickel silver) and as catalysts (such as Raney nickel, especially as a catalyst for hydrogenation)

Density: 8.902g/cm3

Melting point: 1453℃

Boiling point: 2732℃

Nickel is insoluble in water, and forms a dense oxide film on the surface in humid air at room temperature, which can prevent the continued oxidation of the bulk metal. It can be slowly dissolved in dilute acid, releasing hydrogen to produce green positive divalent nickel ion Ni2+; strong alkali resistance. Nickel can burn in pure oxygen, giving off a dazzling white light

Application:

Nickel is often used in electroplating because of its good corrosion resistance. Nickel-cadmium batteries contain nickel.

Mainly used in alloys (formulas) (such as nickel steel and nickel silver) and as catalysts (such as Raney nickel, especially as a catalyst for hydrogenation), can be used to make currency, etc., and can be plated on other metals to prevent rusting. It is mainly used to manufacture stainless steel and other corrosion-resistant alloys, such as nickel steel, nickel-chromium steel and various non-ferrous metal alloys. Copper-nickel alloys with high nickel content are not easy to corrode. Also used as hydrogenation catalyst and used in ceramic products, special chemical utensils, electronic circuits, green glass and nickel compound preparation and so on.

Electrolytic nickel: Electrolytic nickel is nickel made by electrolysis. Stainless steel and various alloy steels made from it are widely used in aircraft, tanks, ships, radars, missiles, spacecraft and machine manufacturing, ceramic pigments in civil industries , permanent magnet materials, electronic remote control and other fields.
