Overview
Physical and chemical properties
High-purity hafnium particles are a shiny silver-gray transition metal with a density of 13.31g/cm3, a melting point of 2233°C, and a boiling point of 4603°C. They have the characteristics of high purity, low zirconium, and low oxygen. It is an important material in the atomic energy industry and can be used as a cathode for X-ray tubes in the electrical industry.

Application

Hafnium metal has allotropic variants at high temperature. Hafnium metal has a high neutron absorption cross section and can be used as a control material for reactors.
The chemical properties of hafnium are very similar to zirconium, and it has good corrosion resistance and is not easily eroded by general acid-base aqueous solutions; it is easily soluble in hydrofluoric acid to form fluorine complexes.
