Overview
Cadmium (Cd) General Information:
The element symbol of cadmium is Cd, its English name is Cadmium, its atomic number is 48, and its density is 8.65g/cm³. Cadmium is silvery white with a slight light blue luster, soft and wear-resistant, tough and ductile, flammable and irritating. The melting point is 320.9℃, and its boiling point is between 765~767℃. It is a relatively rare element in nature, and its content in the earth's crust is about 0.1~0.2mg/kg. Cadmium is found in zinc ores. Cadmium can slowly oxidize and lose its luster in humid air. When heated, a brown oxide layer is formed, and cadmium vapor burns to produce brown smoke. Cadmium reacts with sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid and nitric acid to produce cadmium salts. Cadmium has good corrosion resistance against salt water and alkali.

Cadmium can be used to make nickel-cadmium batteries, plastic manufacturing and metal plating, making tires, some light-emitting electronic components and nuclear reactor components. The oxide of cadmium is brown and the sulfide is bright yellow. It is a pigment that is difficult to dissolve and is often used to produce certain yellow pigments in pigments, paints, dyes, printing inks, etc.
